Jennifer is the new owner of the Bahama Buck’s shop in Redlands, CA, located at 27511 San Bernardino Avenue. We sat down with her to learn more about her journey to becoming a member of the Bahama Buck’s family in September, as well as her life outside Buck’s.
Tell us about yourself and your family.
I have been in the medical field for 26 years, and currently work as a nurse in the operating room. My husband’s name is Steve, and he is a firefighter, paramedic, and engineer who has worked for the Redlands Fire Department for 21 years. We have been married for 15 years and together for almost 18. We have two children: Teagan who is 12 (going on 30) and Brockton who is 10. They both play soccer, so we spend most weekends on the field. Our family has two labs who are our babies, and we are HUGE football people. We love the Broncos!
How did you hear about Bahama Buck’s and what made you want to join the franchise?
Before joining the Bahama Buck’s family, my husband and I were looking into opening a franchise with another company after they approached us. This planted the first seed that we could do something outside of the medical field. Early on in the process, we hit one obstacle after another and decided it was not where God wanted us at the time. During that time, I met Christy Walton, who was the owner of the Redlands Bahama Buck’s shop. I picked her brain and compared her franchising experience with mine. Christy told me how helpful Bahama Buck’s was and that she had never worked for such a wonderful company. We visited the Bahama Buck’s Support Center last year and I fell in love with everyone there, their beliefs, and their work ethics. They treated me like I was family from the moment I met them. Later, in February 2024, Christy offered for us to buy the Redlands shop, and we took over in September.
What do you love about Bahama Buck’s?
I love Bahama Buck’s because it’s helping me get out of my comfort zone career-wise, and allowing me to see I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. I love that it’s a positive environment, bringing stability and life lessons to the youth in our community by offering a safe work environment with a focus on blessing others. I love the opportunity to work in a business that allows my husband, children, and even our parents, to all get involved.
What has been one of the most rewarding things about owning a Bahama Buck’s?
One of the most rewarding things about owning a Bahama Buck’s is hopefully being a role model to my children. They have been with us every step of the way. It’s also rewarding to know we are the foundation for many members of our Avalanche Crew. We hope we can instill a positive mindset and the work ethic of “blessing our guests” they can take with them when they move onto the next steps of their careers.
What separates Bahama Buck’s from its competitors?
Our focus on customer service sets us apart from others. There are some great companies out there, and although some are close, I still feel Bahama Buck’s has the best service, from the patron all the way to the corporate level. And let’s not forget about the products! You will never find another shaved ice that compares in texture or flavor. You don’t just get a hint of flavor, it’s the real deal!
In what ways does the Bahama Buck’s corporate office support you and your shop?
Corporate has been there to guide me since day one and has held my hand every step of the way. They have more patience with me than I could ever ask for—going from the medical field to business is a huge learning curve.
What’s your favorite flavor combination or Bahama Buck’s product?
I love watermelon or pink cotton candy Sno with Tropic Creme. Also, now that I’ve tried Dr. Paradise, I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s an almost daily indulgence that just hits the spot and makes the world sit right for a few short moments.
